Greetings Dear Ones,
As I write, little insects buzz between stems of purple laden alfalfa. I’ve a tiny meadow on my suburban lawn; it’s my act of rebellion against the manicured sameness of the sub-division. Rebellion is key this month as the Sun travels through Leo helping you restore confidence. Leo is the flame of inner conviction and that inner conviction defines your being. Leo is not the ego. Leo is your intrinsic being-ness – it’s who you are.
This year, life has become a soap opera. Shakespeare knew that it was, but back then it was a stage, now it’s your life. This is the challenge of this month – the challenge to drop the story, to drop the ego and rediscover your hidden inner gems – the authentic you beneath the ego defense. Ego is about sucking up the spotlight; authentic being radiates light. See the difference?
Leo is ruled by the Sun. So the sun sign you’re born under is infused with the bold, heart chakra nature of the lion and is then colored by the sign you were born under. Say you’re a Taurus… the Sun’s light infuses your being with Taurus features, yet the original energy is the Sun – which is life itself. So consider the first weeks of August, up until the 22nd, to be a re-strengthening period for you. If you’re going into August exhausted and uncertain, chin up friend! You will be restored. Keep in mind, we’re experiencing the energy of rebirth with Barbault’s Basket (described in last month’s blog) as well. Feel into the deep systemic changes we’re living in.
After the 22nd , and going to September 22nd, the Sun will be in Virgo. This earthy, organizing, cellular energy roots you to your life with the tendrils of routine and health.
In the meantime, this is the month of the infamous Lion’s Gate on 8/8. This is when our Sun aligns with Sirius the dog star. The magical moment is when we get a glimpse of Sirius on the eastern horizon just before the Sun dawns. This date is flexible and very dependent on what kind of horizon you have and what the sky conditions are. It’s best to treat the entire months of July and August as special times to connect to our spiritual Sun, Sirius. 8/8 resonates numerologically but not so much with Sirius’s heliacal rising.
And finally, before we get into the day by day it’s important to note that the prevailing nodal axis has moved into Aquarius/Leo for the first time in over 18 years. The last time Aquarius was the north node was late 2007 and into 2009. The nodal axis refers to two opposite points in space that mark the Moon crossing the ecliptic plane. On a metaphysical level, the nodal axis reveals cosmic “advice” to the entire planet. We’re invited to come into the heart space of Leo while holding our collective visions for peace, equality and justice. The nodes will be in these fixed signs for the next 18 months.
The north node is the direction we’re guided towards – at its positive it includes fellowship, equality, justice, science. We’re moving away from Leo’s shadow of ego aggrandizement and entitlement (where the north node was in 2018). We are retaining Leo’s laughter, fun and play! And hopefully, we’re integrating the Aquarius shadow of fixed mental patterns (so stubborn) and social isolation. If you were born with your nodal axis in Leo and Aquarius you can anticipate coming into new realizations about your life over the next 18 months.
Let’s get into it:
August 1st we are still reeling, in either happy dance, or abject confusion, following an over-the-top Aquarian Moon on July 29th. And today, on the first day of the month… Venus and Mars conclude their square. That tense angle carried us through the last week of July and was infused into the full moon. How this makes sense in your life now is to consider the conflicts you have both within yourself or with others over different value systems, love affairs and so on. On a national level, many Americans have a profound value clash with our current President. Incidentally, the south node (and later Mars and Jupiter) will resonate over key points in DJT’s chart making him the center of attention yet again and not in a good way.
August 2nd feels like a fresh start. The Moon now in fiery Aries meets dreamy Neptune and harmonizes with the Sun and Jupiter.
August 3rd, we may meet a few roadblocks when the Moon meets Saturn, but if you take your time and consider the long-term consequences, you’ll be fine.
August 4th, the Moon changes signs late in the evening and meets Chiron, inviting healing dreams and possible earth changes and disruptions.
August 5th, with the Moon waning and in Taurus over the next couple of days we get a sense of what brings us comfort, specifically on the 6th when the Moon blows a sweet kiss to Venus.
August 6th Venus changes signs, leaving the fastidiousness of Virgo for the balance of Libra. Venus loves being in Libra. In this sophisticated air sign, one she rules, she gets to wear her pearls. Cosmic note – Venus will retrograde in Libra at the end of October 2026 and will revisit some of the relationships you explore this month. In other words, pay attention to all your relationships!
August 7th, the Moon, now in Gemini, blows another kiss to Venus and snuggles up to unpredictable Uranus. In the larger world, market changes are possible, specifically related to transportation, the internet, and all communication devices. In the personal realm, sudden shifts and breakthroughs occur in relationships.
August 8th, the Moon meets Mars and both oppose the galactic center. Pay very close attention now to unusual information and downloads from your higher self. Changes in the neighborhood and/or with siblings are possible.
August 9th through the 12th are big days! Two planets change signs, and we’re about to enter the open doors of an eclipse. Planets changing signs shifts the energy rather dramatically. First up is Mercury as it leaves the emotional waters of moody Cancer for theatrical Leo on August 9th. The next two weeks are big-talk days when Mercury travels with the Sun and Jupiter. Legal matters regarding sovereignty predominate.
On August 10th, the waning Cancer Moon carries through to the 11th when Mars leaves two-faced glib talking Gemini for home loving Cancer. Mars is in its fall in Cancer and thus is somewhat compromised. Fears over loss of security come to the foreground during the next seven weeks as Mars pokes the USA Cancer Sun releasing reactive scarcity mentality. Yet on a personal level, Mars can be sweet and sensitive in Cancer and a touch obsessive about food. A nod here to my friends and clients who have Mars in Cancer – you are so dear!
August 11th and sweet Venus opposes dreamy Neptune. Be inspired but not hoodwinked!
We’re in the dark of the Moon now and about to experience a New Moon solar eclipse at 20˚ Leo. Plant seeds of courage and fortitude now. Remember to drop the stories. Come from your heart’s wisdom, and let the defense of ego fall away. Though, with the Moon now in Leo with Mercury, Jupiter and the Sun it’s going to be hard getting a word in edgewise! Everyone has something to say – especially the elite/ruling class who’re hanging onto their status as if their lives depend on it.
August 12th at 11:36 am MDT the Moon crosses the face of the Sun at a total solar eclipse. Those in the northern most climes will be in the shadow of this eclipse – namely Greenland and northern Russia and parts of Spain (as the eclipse path bends).
New Moons are beginnings and solar eclipses hold the door wide open to new experiences. Look back at 2008/2009 and again at August 2018, when eclipses occurred close to this celestial address. What was happening in your life then? It’s possible you’re at the next stage of that experience. This year your authentic self, beyond ego defense, is invited to come forward in creative courage. This is a heart-forward moment! Be you!
August 13th, the waxing Moon enters Virgo and meets the south node. What needs to go?
Get yourself organized on the 14th with the Virgo Moon.
August 15th and 16th are interesting days as the Moon enters gracious Libra, meets Venus on the 15th and then opposes Saturn on the 16th. Partnerships require time to develop is what this looks like.
August 15th is also kind of magical with an exact Mercury/Jupiter conjunction in Leo. Please come and hang out with me and friends at the Sophia Center in Palisade. We’ll be enjoying wide ranging discussions about my new book Bodysense, astrology, and current trends in psychology. More info at the bottom of this blog.
August 16th do what means the most to you as the Moon opposes Saturn.
August 17th and the Moon enters Scorpio midday (MDT) and opposes wounded healer Chiron. It’s time to go deep and feel what ails you. Emotional release is likely over the next three days.
August 18th and 19th invite centering with the Scorpio Moon as it creates tense angels with the prevailing Leo energy. Notice what’s happening but don’t attach.
August 20th and 21st, Venus opposes Saturn and brings relationship issues to the foreground. Are you in this for you? Or them? Take your time. The flow of money and love could be restricted. Sudden surprises are possible too as the Moon opposes Uranus.
August 21st and August 22nd the fiery Sagittarius Moon harmonizes with Mercury and the Sun bringing hope and optimism.
On August 22nd, the Sun meets the south node – an authority is letting go. This energy is very close to DJT’S ascendant and Mars. He’s up to something, or something is on to him. Later on the evening of the 22nd, the Sun enters the earthy pragmatism of Virgo and switches everything around. This is especially felt this year with the Sun hovering at the south node. Hasta la vista baby!
We are now in Virgo country. This is your annual opportunity to practice mental hygiene, self-care, organization and simplicity. Your pets need extra TLC from you over the next thirty days.
August 23rd the waxing Capricorn Moon opposes the Cancer Mars bringing conflict forward. Use this time to take care of important business.
Keep up the good work on the 24th as the Capricorn Moon invites practical action.
On August 25th Mercury meets the south node and leaves dramatic Leo for analytical Virgo. Use the next three weeks to connect the dots and take care of the details and routine of your life. Also today, the Moon enters Aquarius and meets Pluto. This is a good day for activism!
While we sleep on August 26th, the Aquarian Moon opposes Jupiter and infuses wisdom into your dream scape. We may wake to legal news.
Pay close attention to what’s happening in society. The Aquarian Moon meets the North Node… the people are strengthening.
August 27th is my dear sister’s birthday! And today, Mercury meets the Sun. Details matter! And so does health, good communication, and mental hygiene. No negativity today!
At 10:18 pm MDT, on August 27th, the full Pisces Moon opposes the Virgo Sun in a partial lunar eclipse at 4˚. Full Moons always release energy and Pisces Moons specifically release spiritual and health related debris. Mercury will be very close to the Sun at this eclipse speaking of siblings, messages and all kinds of communication, including the cells in our bodies. This lunar eclipse plugs into Barbault’s Basket – see last month’s blog for more. This suggests we’re on target – the entire world is shifting – and our bodies and spirits are on board at this time. Keep the faith! Neptune, the planet of faith, is part of the basket!
The waning Pisces Moon carries us over the next two days. Again, keep the faith! Open your heart and vision to the magic of Jupiter trine Saturn on the 29th. Oh… I like this! Here’s a rare chance to make tiny changes in your trajectory, ensuring you end up where you want to go, though the journey be long and requiring of patience.
Abundant Jupiter and stern Saturn hold hands and look in each other’s eyes through the end of August and into the first few days of September. Mars gets in on this by squaring Saturn … use your energy wisely even if you feel blocked at times. Make this month count by focusing on the big picture, the enduring vision, the one that brings you hope and makes you chuckle.

For deer and bear, woman and man, safe passage through life’s wilderness is crucial. And yet along the way some get hurt. In Bodysense, the lives of four wounded people converge in the rugged beauty of Wyoming. Helped from afar by the nuns at Comfrey Farm and Sanctuary, our travelers discover that life is far more connected than they thought. As they care for one another, revealing secrets and reigniting passions, life deepens beyond their imagining.
